Rehearsals: NDG Community Centre

Schedule: Wednesday from 7:30 pm – 9:15 pm and every third Sunday from 10:30 am – 12:45 pm

Annual Fees:  $475 (January to June 2025)

The Concert Choir is CEM’s most advanced ensemble. It consists of choristers who wish to be part of a high-level group and work on complex repertoire. Choristers will be selected through an audition process during which their vocal capacity and musical knowledge will be evaluated.

The Concert Choir performs in two annual CEM concerts, accompanied by professional musicians. They also perform in the annual Earth Hour concert and in various other concerts and festivals.

By exploring ambitious repertoire in a friendly atmosphere, choristers develop their:

  • vocal technique
  • proficiency in music theory and rhythms
  • ability to read a complex music score
  • capacity to sing in harmony (two to six parts)
  • team spirit
  • stage presence
  • ability to perform in a professional context
  • ability to sing by heart in different languages

Each week, choristers will receive an online assignment to do or a list of lyrics to memorize. Choristers should spend between 5 and 30 minutes on this homework each week.

Criteria:

  • participate in the auditions. Please contact us to schedule an audition.
  • register (form and payment) before the first rehearsal on Wednesday, January 15 2025.
  • participate in the first rehearsal on Wednesday, January 15 2025, from 7:30 pm to 9:15 pm.
  • sign and return the commitment contract before the 3rd rehearsal

 

Audition Details:

  • Duration: 20 minutes;
  • The audition will take place in a relaxed, private meeting with the Artistic Director;
  • In order to determine the chorister’s vocal register and if the level of the Concert Choir suits them, they will be guided through a vocal warm-up, and then in learning an excerpt from a choral work selected by the Artistic Director at the time of the audition;
  • Optional: If the chorister wishes, they can prepare a short piece or an excerpt of a piece that they can perform a cappella or accompanied on the piano.  If the chorister would like accompaniment, they must bring a paper copy of the score for the Artistic Director.

 

Concert Attire:

  • Either a concert dress to rent from CEM
  • Or black pants and a black shirt, to be purchased
